About ochre
I'm Lauren — the hands, heart, and maker behind Ochre Ceramics.
Everything you see here is designed and made by me, from my studio in Mullumbimby, in the Northern Rivers of NSW — just fifteen minutes from Byron Bay. Handmade ceramics, jewellery, and ceramic lighting, made slowly and with real care for the materials and the landscape that inspire them.
Ochre began as a ceramic jewellery brand. As my love of clay deepened, so did my skills and the range grew naturally with them. First came ceramic beads, then homewares, and eventually, handmade ceramic lighting. Ochre has always grown as I've grown.
I also run pottery and jewellery-making workshops from the Mullumbimby studio, a relaxed, creative space where anyone can come and make something beautiful with their hands. No experience needed. Just a love of making.
Whether you're here to shop, to book a workshop, or just to have a look around, I'm really glad you found us.
Ochre’s Mission
I believe we hold onto our most treasured possessions for life, they become the totems for our memories and milestones. A precious pair of gold hoops, gifted to us for our 30th birthday. A beautiful handmade ceramic vase passed down from our grandmother. It is so important to me that Ochre’s pieces nurture those same sentimental feelings.
I believe those stories start with how each piece is created. This is why I share with you my processes, it's why I am guided by an awareness of Ochre's footprint on the world, it's why my ethos has always been. . .
“To craft beautiful pieces considerately and ethically, respecting our beautiful planet. So that when I hand the pieces over to you, the love story has already started...”
Mindfully Making
I have always tried to make sure in all decisions I make, from the way I craft Ochre’s pieces to how I run its pottery events, the environment is at the core. But I can do better! This has led me to partnering with One Tree Planted.
Each and EVERY sales goes towards planting trees via One Tree Planted Australia. My hope is this will result in thousands of trees being planted every year.
With the help of this beautiful community we have been able to plant OVER 3000 Trees since starting in October 2020!!!
