A lovely feature in Hunter & Folk
A few weeks back, Hande Renshaw at Hunter & Folk wrote the most beautiful piece on Ochre and our Jewellery, Jazz and Wine workshops. it captured the heart of what these workshops are.
If you haven't come across Hunter & Folk before, it's one of my favourite Australian design and arts journals. Quietly considered, beautifully shot, full of the kind of stories you save to read on a Sunday. So having Jewellery, Jazz and Wine featured in their journal is a moment I'll be holding onto for a while.
The long table, coloured with flowers, little ceramic dishes filled with pearls, handmade beads, colourful glass, gold-filled and sterling silver findings. Wine poured, a cheese platter circulating, jazz filling the room. Two hours to design and assemble your own earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, with me moving through the space offering guidance when you need it. From findings to wire, stringing to attaching, every piece leaves finished, considered and wearable.
She described the whole thing as, ‘Somewhere between a dinner party and a creative studio. The best kind of slow-release dopamine hit!’
I might steal that line for life. She also quoted something I'd said that I'd half forgotten I'd said:
Just like booking a really lovely restaurant, my hope is that Ochre's workshops feel like a memorable experience. A chance to slow down, connect and leave with something you've made with your own hands.
That's the whole point for me. You can read the full piece over on Hunter & Folk here: Make Something Beautiful With Ochre.
The next round of Sydney Jewellery, Jazz and Wine workshops at Art Department Studio in Woolloomooloo are open for booking now:

Thank you to Hande and the team at Hunter & Folk for seeing Ochre so clearly.
