Tea Set Workshop | Make Your Own Teapot near Byron Bay

This workshop is about making something beautiful and considered. A tea set is technical and a complex piece to hand-build, but with step-by-step instruction for each detail and 3 hours to put it all together, you will not quite believe what you can achieve. In this beautiful morning workshop, I will walk you through every step: the pinch pot, coiling, the handle, the spout, the lid. And of course we have local coffee, tea and delicious pastries to enjoy while creating.

I feel so proud when someone completes their first teapot. It looks harder than it is, I promise. And by the end of the session you will not quite believe you achieved it.

  • Three hours of guided hand-building — teapot and cups, from scratch

  • Step-by-step instruction for every part, including spout, handle, and lid

  • Allpress coffee, herbal tea, and Bread Social pastries throughout (vegan and gluten-free options available)

  • All materials and tools provided

  • Your finished set glazed, fired, and ready for pickup or postage in a few weeks

Workshop Information

  • Location: Ochre Ceramics Studio, 44 Main Arm Rd, Mullumbimby a short drive from Byron Bay.

  • Time: 10am - 1pm (3 hours)

  • Cost: A$165 per person

All pieces are fired and glazed for you after the session, ready for pickup or optional shipping.

  • Together we carefully work through each step of building a teapot entirely by hand. I'll take you through making a pinch pot base, coiling up the body, attaching a handle and spout, and forming a lid that actually fits.

At the end of class there's time set aside if you'd like to make a tea cup or two. Though honestly most people find themselves using those last 20 minutes to perfect/finish their teapot.

If you don’t get a chance to make your teacups in this class you're always welcome to come back and make some in a Clay, Coffee + Croissants Workshop or a Clay, Wine + Cheese Class.

  • Not at all. I teach every step as we go and I will be right there alongside you throughout. If you have done some pottery before, even better — but it is absolutely not required.

  • After our workshop I will then glaze + fire your beautiful creations for you to pick up a few weeks later.

    Posting is also an option.

  • Of course! Please email to let Lauren know after booking.

The workshop is paired with tea, Allpress coffee and Bread Social pastries (vegan + Gf options by request)

  • My hope is that Ochre’s Pottery Workshops are the perfect date, celebration, treat to yourself, or extra special catch up with someone you love.

  • "Lauren's guidance, expertise, and warm personality created the perfect environment to make us all feel at ease. Her clear instructions and demonstrations made the whole workshop so enjoyable." — Aysha, Google Review
